WHAT IS SEO TO YOU?

Search Engine Optimization:

Find your next customers by designing your website for the search engines

The internet dominates how a business finds new customers these days. People hunt for services and products on their smart phones more than any other way. When they type something into their search bar, the search engines give them lists of websites that most closely match the search.

Websites with the best SEO go to the top of those lists. Websites on the top of those lists get the most traffic, and if their website sales funnel is up to scratch, most of the business too. That’s how important SEO is.

The competition for the support and loyalty of consumers is tougher than it has ever been. Offering fantastic service, or super-low prices for your products, are great ways to keep your existing customers. But they won’t necessarily help you find new ones.

You may get some referred business, which is very valuable, of course. Word of mouth referrals demonstrate the value you bring to your clients, and the trust they have in you. It’s also very useful from an SEO perspective, and you can leverage it to improve your search rankings. More on that here. Apart from referrals though, it’s online where people go to find their solutions.

Your website definitely plays an important role to existing customers. But it’s real power is in its ability to find new ones. These are the people you want to find your website easily. Preferably on the first page of their search. Unfortunately, your competitors want the same thing.

It’s SEO that determines whether prospects choose you first.

GETTING YOUR SITE ON PAGE ONE WITH ORGANIC SEO

There are two ways to get onto page one. There’s pay-per-click, an auction type model where you bid for top spot on search results and pay Google the bid value each time someone clicks your link. In some markets this is an excellent option when used carefully, and I’ll go into it further on another page, but for most small businesses there’s a more effective and sustainable way to go.

Organic SEO is where everything the search engines want to see is written into both your content and the html elements of each page of your site.

There’s a catch 22 though. If your content doesn’t focus on solving your customers problems, they won’t want to read it. But it must also satisfy the search engines from an SEO perspective, or they won’t your page won’t rank highly. In which case your prospective customers won’t find it.

Which is the challenge of content writers.

It takes time, and the html stuff is low-level technical, but there are enough articles online for you to learn how to do it yourself.

THE HIGHEST VALUE ELEMENT OF YOUR WEBSITE

You might have the prettiest website ever. Your product pages might look fantastic. You may have the most technically thorough sales funnel money can buy.

None of it matters if no-one finds your site.

SEO gets websites found. For every search you do, the highest ranking pages are the ones with the best SEO.

Their owners have recognized the value of being on page one, and have done the work needed to get there.

If your business could benefit from the traffic that comes with page one rankings, I can help you get there.
